"SHINKUTO! SHINKUTO! SHINKUTO WAKE UP!" cried a girl with long purple hair shaking the green haired boy tears falling down. He had been shot...shot because of her. Shot because of a yakuza gang. They had just been walking home and she was fighting but there were so many and she was so focused that she couldn't defend him. It was all her fault. All her fault. She held her head, her body shaking, her vision blurred by the tears that where threatening to fall. Even though she told herself a Tsukami would not cry she couldn't hold it back and that was when she saw him. He had just appeared in front of her, a man dressed in a neat black suit with blue hair and heterochromia that were in deep contrast of each other. The left being an icy blue and the right being bloody red. He had stood on the other side of the dead boy's body and blinked when he saw her look at him. It didn't last long before a polite smile came upon his face. "Ahhh you can see me?" he had asked as if it was something completely abnormal. She gave a small nod and she can see people gathering around them now. She can hear whispers of pity and she tried to block it out. The man looked around them for a moment before looking down at the dead boy and understanding the situation. "Would you like a chance to save him?" he had asked her extending his hand. "Take it as another chance." he had told her. Miyuki stared at the man's hand. She had a feeling he was dangerous. The way he had stared at the dead body with no concern nor pity but...if it was a chance of save Shinkuto she would take it. And so she took his hand and a white flash blinded her. The alarm on her clock rang and Miyuki woke up and stared out at the calendar. It was August 15...was that all a dream? She shook her head and went off. She was going to meet him today to decorate his apartment as it didn't feel like a home after all. With a small smile she got up, got dressed, brushed her hair and walked out of her room. Yoite sighed "Honestly. I have no idea how you can go shopping with the Devil. I bet he is way too picky." She had giggled knowing that it was true but still she shook her head. "But that means he only picks out the best stuff right?" The male went silent and looked away defeated. This conversation...she had it before. Shaking her head the girl got up and left the house bidding farewell before running to town to meet him. They went to buy and just like the dream only bought one thing which was a small photo frame. Although he didn't know what picture to put in it yet. As they walked down the street he started to walk to the shortcut. The shortcut where that gang was. Instinctively the second year grabbed his hand and stopped. Shinkuto looked back at her looking rather confused and she looked away for a moment trying to think of something. If she told him the truth, he would thinks he was crazy. "Lets go the long way." she suggested with a smile. "I want to catch up some more with you Shinkuto." she added on and he had nodded. "Lets." One word had never gave Miyuki so much relief. The two headed to the long route but she didn't mind. She would like to spend more time with him after all. Then all of a sudden she heard screams. Huh? She saw the crowd looking up and looked up as well to see metal poles falling down from the construction building. "Miyuki!" Someone had pushed her and said someone was then impaled right through. Miyuki watched him bleed staring at her. "Good...you're....safe." "Shinkuto!" No no no no no no no! This...this can't be happening. They avoided it. The girl couldn't even scream at the sight as she held her face. No....this....this was't suppose to- "Ara? You failed again? How unfortunate." observed a voice and she turned around to see that it was the same male she had seen. Miyuki turned around and grabbed onto his hands. "Again? So then..." "Yes. I reversed time just for you. Just once though. I thought that would be all you need." "Please....do it one more time." He blinked for a moment his expression unreadable. It was blank...completely nothing before a smile. "Very well. But under one condition." "What?" Suddenly the crowds staring at her, the buildings, the pipes, they were all gone. All there was, was Shinkuto's dead body and clocks evenly spaced from each other. They were in what seems to be in a black room. "You interest me. Not only can you see me but you want to save this boy. What an interesting human you are." he stated as if he wasn't human. Not one bit. "Do tell me. What is your name?" "Tsukami Miyuki." she stated trying to remain calm. She needed to stay calm...and so she focused on the man instead of the dead body in front of her. If she was to look at it she would waver, she knew that. "Ahh. I believe you humans...introduce yourself after asking for another's name? Or perhaps before. Unfortunately I do not have a name...or I do not believe I do. Hard to tell really but I suppose I shall make one up for this occasion. Dasoku Ren. That sounds good yes? Well Tsukami-san, you are a rather interesting person." he told her before extending his hand. "As for the price of rewinding, I will not do it for free this time. What I want is your determination...no...perhaps that not the way to phrase it." he looked off to the side at the clock as if contemplating. Two of the clocks were dyed red...yes that was the ones that he was looking at. Red, just like his right eye. "Ah I believe it is how far you will go." he stated looking back at her with a smile. "I want to see how far you are willing to go. And so...until you have saved that boy I will forever rewind time to this day. You will live in it again and again to save him. An endless maze where the only way to get out is to reach to the proper ending. So tell me. Will you accept? Because I won't let you out, you'll have to earn it. Even if you cry and beg, you'll forever relive this day. If you are not careful you might stop caring. You might even break....but then again perhaps being broken isn't that bad. Reliving the same day over and over, you would know what happen so there is predictability and you'll never have to move on." Miyuki stared at the man listing as if he was trying to predict what she would do. To live this day over and over until she saved Shinkuto. Her eyes determined she had took hold of his hand. "I accept." she told him. She'll repeat this as many times as it takes. Ren had smiled at her words but she was not sure if it was of him proud of her answers or if it was sadistic. He pulled her into him. "You humans have a piece of paper for contracts these days do you not? Unfortunately I do not have such so I suppose we shall dot his the old classic way." And with that he pressed his lips onto hers and everything went white. Miyuki woke up and stared at the calendar. August 15, he really did rewind the clock. She got up and quickly got changed, brushed her hair and walked out of her room. She followed the conversation with her brother like last time to try to keep everything as normal as possible. She then went to their meeting place and bought the photo frame. When walking home, she didn't take the shortcut and instead suggested going to another shop away from the construction site. In store though a group of robbers came and had shot Shinkuto when aiming for Miyuki. Time stopped and Ren appeared looking at the scene. "Hmm I suppose that didn't work either." he had mused more to himself than anything. "What a shame Tsukami." "Please...turn back time." "That is our deal is it not?" This time she suggested they go to a park but even then driving in the street was a drunk driver and Shinkuto had pushed her away. It continued this way. Everything she did. He wouldn't stop dying. She took him to another street, a homicidal killer stabbed him. They went to a restaurant, on the way someone had accidentally pushed him down the stairs. They went to a cafe, some gang had a misfire and killed him. No matter what...he would always die and she knew the time. 12:53 P.M. That was the time Ren would always show up to tell her that he was going to reverse time again and again. The on one try he stared at her with a smile. "Does it hurt?" She didn't give an answer. "Does watching him die no matter what hurt?" "...Have you ever lost someone important to you?" "I have no one important to me." She stared at him as if disbelieving his words. Everyone had someone important to them after all. Don't they? "You see. You humans have people important to you because you interact with people from what I observed. No one can ever see me. I have lived for so long. I've seen so many people die and I feel nothing for it. Yet..you can see me so I thought why not. I shall rewind time to observe you. Now shall we?" "Yes...I'll protect him this time." "Why so determined still?" "Because he's important to me." "Really? Or is it because you merely don't want to be broken? Maybe...it's because you can't live without him." Before she can answer, Miyuki was engulfed in white light. She woke up and called Shinkuto. She had an idea. "Shinkuto, I can't go today." she had told him. "Really? Why?" "I...I..." she didn't want to lie to him. She couldn't...but she couldn't tell him that he...that he would die if she went out with him. That she would watch him die so helplessly. No...she can't do that. She won't do that. "Miyuki? Miyuki. Miyuki are you there? Miyuki!" His voice on the other line rang in her ears filled with worry. "I'm sorry but I can't go!" And with that she hung up and turned off her phone. She didn't leave her room. Her brother had knocked on the door trying to get her out but she told him that she wasn't feeling well. This time she wasn't lying...she felt like she was in agony. She can hear the ticking of the clock and the time between every tick was an eternity. 12:53 P.M. He appeared. Ren appeared before her with a small smile. "Not meeting him to prevent you from going to the streets. Not a bad idea but...unfortunately it did not work." he had told her. "How?" "You made him worried. He drove his car over but he was too focused on you. He died in a car accident." Miyuki stared at him...took a few steps towards the man before falling onto her knees. Why? Why won't it work. "Lets try again shall we? Maybe you can get out this time." "Wait!" He tilted his head. "If you wish to give up it won't work. I won't let you. Remember our contract." "I know...just...please...give me a moment." "Very well. I shall give you a minute." The Tsukami stared down trying to figure out what to do. Meeting him led to his death. Not meeting him led to his death. What was she suppose to do? Just....how could she get out with him alive? "Time's up." And with a white flash she woke up. Again August 15 and she had suggested they go to a different shop but he still died. He died pushing her away from a falling shelf. Ren appeared looking down at him before they were again in the black room. "Another failure." he had commented, his voice emotionless. "How many times?" "How many times what?" "How many times has he died?" How many times have you killed him?" the man had rephrased her question for her. "3650 times." he had answered for her. And then so many of the clocks around them were all dyed red just to show her. If one was to look closely they would see the many and different ways he had died. A mark of each and every of her failure. "So I've been doing this for..." "Ten years." he finished for her. "Have you decided to give up Tsukami-san? Unfortunately for you it won't matter. Remember our contract. You are to do this over and over. For twenty years...thirty...centuries...eternity." if that is what it takes. "Surely you will come to an answer if there is one. If not then, you will forever live in this day. Repeating it. Killing him over and over in so many different ways." He walked over to the dead body. "Tell me Tsukami-san, can you distinguish him alive and dead. When you look at him all you see is a dead body yes?" he asked her with a small chuckle. Then he started to reach for her hand. "Lets try this again." Miyuki reached for his hand back looking determined. "I'll save him." she had merely responded before a white flash enveloped the two. Her eyes showing no broken fear only because she figured it out, the reason why Shinkuto kept dying, the reason why time keeps on rewinding and she knew how to end it all. She woke up on August 15, got up, got her changed and then her hair done. Afterwards she went with Shinkuto. They went to a shop and started to head home. Head home using the short cut. The short cut where he had first died. With every step she can feel her heart beating faster but she tried her best to ignore it. The yakuza gang showed up as to be expected. August 15, 12:53 P.M.: The son of a the famous politician Nakamura Akira was killed. August 15, 12:53 P.M.: A girl by the name of Tsukami Miyuki was killed. Ren stared at her...his emotionless mask gone. He watched her smile at him as one of the men stabbed her. "I did it. I saved him." she mouthed, "I won Ren." The one and only ending. Every time she lives, he dies and she would repeat again and again. It took her a while to figure it out but she soon found out the cause of all of this. She had been so focused on just saving him that she never thought of the reason why he was in danger in the first place until now. The two-colored eye man stared at her with blank eyes as she fell to the ground. The police came just in time to arrest the gang but not soon enough to save Miyuki. She died of blood lost but with a mysterious smile on her face. All Ren can do was stare because he cannot turn back time. He cannot turn back time because she had escaped the maze. She had saved Shinkuto. She was now free. The man closed his eyes...and never appeared in front of anyone ever.
