All eyes turned garnered to the focal point of the ruckus. Flushed cheeks tinted with frustration, pale knuckles clenched and trembling, and wide violet hues glossy to the brink of tears. The young pineapple haired lass stared defiantly up to the man she was supposed to call ‘step-father’. Her mother’s initial expression – mortified – quickly turned to stern, and disappointment of her daughter’s behavior. “Naomi Tatsuya!” she cried in frustration. “Apologize to your padre this instant!”“N-No,” she protested defiantly, “He’s not my father, and he never will be!” “Naomi!” The little purplelette turned heel racing back up the stairs to the confinements of her room. Her parents could hear the sound of her door slamming echo in the hallway. A maid had arrived at the scene to begin picking up the pieces of the china doll her stepfather went out to buy for her. It’s once perfectly painted face now broken into million bits and pieces. A sigh escaped the Tatsuya mother’s lips turning her dishearten eyes over to her son who happened to have walked in the scene. “Rei, could you please talk to your sorella?” The cerulean haired male flickered his equally bright blue eyes up at his mother’s request. He could see the lethargy dimming what once used to be the light of joy radiating from her loving eyes. How pathetically hopeless she looked as she depended on him to fix the tension like some miracle worker. “Yes, mother.” Rei would rather not have to talk to the brat to be perfectly honest, but when was he ever honest? He was the perfect big brother. It would be beneath him if he couldn’t handle his younger sibling’s temperaments. He made his way upstairs to the second story journeying to the location of her room. Before he raised a palm to knock on the door he could hear the faint sobs of her cries. It was such a wretched sound that it made the male cringe in disgust. The sooner he shut her up the faster he could return back to his business. He had homework to finish, and books he’d very much like to read in peace. Knocking crisply upon the door, Rei spoke, “Naomi-chan? It’s me. Can I come in?” “Rei-nii?” He took that as permission to enter her room turning the knob before passing through the threshold. Upon entering her room he was greeted with the little witch’s sanctuary. The interior decorated with everything a little magic-wielder could imagine littered about. Naomi had nestled on top of her bed with her arms embracing her snowy owl, Hecate. Her face flushed from the crying she’d been doing with the rims of her eyes a little swollen from how violent it must’ve been. Her breathing wasn’t steady as if at any given moment she’d break one more time. “Does it hurt that much?” he asked airily. “It hurts, Rei-nii. It hurts so much,” she hiccuped, “It’s n-not fair! It’s not fair… Why did mommy leave daddy and Renji-nii behind? Why does that man want to take mommy away from daddy?” Oh please, when will this girl ever get over herself? Ever since they arrived in Italy Naomi had been having frequent fits demanding to go back to Japan. Back to their father and the carbon-copy excuse for a twin brother. What good have they been to the family? Especially that heterochromatic sibling who wanted little to nothing to do with anybody in the first place. Rei strolled across the room before perching on the edge of her bedside. He held his arm out fully clothed by a long-sleeved shirt as he gestured for Hecate to hop on. When the owl heeded his request he placed the bird back on it’s little stool to hang out for now so that he could have her undivided attention. “Mother loves him.” “B-But mommy is supposed to love daddy!” she argued in pure naïve ignorance. “Does mommy not love daddy anymore? Does she not love Renji-nii either?” One could wish that were the case. Or at least that’s what he quietly answered in his head. No, he was sure their mother cared for both Renji and their father, but they would never ever getting back together. Their family would never been one anymore. Was that really that hard to swallow down? Besides, it was Renji’s fault that the youngest of their family died. It was no thanks to that instigator of a brother back in Japan that their family separated in the first place. “No, no~ she does,” he gave a neutral answer patting the girl on the head, “Think of it as mother and father taking a break from each other, ne? For now, it would make mother very happy if you could pretend to like our stepfather.” Truly, the male was not above lying through his teeth to his little sister. In his eyes, it was like killing two birds with one stone, Naomi could (and probably adequately at best) fake some kind of mask in front of the man their mother loved. Her mother would be relieved to see her daughter trying to have a good relationship with her new husband. It would all be thanks to Rei’s stringed lies. Naomi sniffled back the tears grasping onto his hand as if it was her only link left that kept her world together. He had the fight back the urge to pull his hand away allowing the girl to take comfort in the innocent touch. That didn’t stop him from having an inward shudder of repulsion. “O-Ok Rei-nii,” she obliged. Wasn’t she such a good girl? “We’ll be seeing father and our fratello this summer,” he chirped in attempt to raise her spirits, “Until then, I’ll need you to be strong, if not for me then for Renji’s sake.” It was rather vexing to watch that once broken state quickly change the moment the favorite brother is mentioned. How just the single acknowledgement of that vermin of a brother had everyone’s affections. “You’re the best, Rei-nii,” she nestled her head against his shoulder. “I can’t wait to see Renji-nii soon. Aren’t you excited too?” No, he wasn’t. He didn’t even believe her when she said he was the best either. Rei shrugged it off as bullshit. She was only clinging onto him because she only saw him as a substitute for her true best big brother. “Ecstatic,” the lone word dripped with sarcasm the girl failed to pick up. “Come now, let’s take Hecate out and go get gelato, ok? Forget about all the bad things that happened, and we'll make things better~” And she believed his lies. All of them down to every last word. That was all their bond would ever surmount to, living in deception to keep her happiness alive, but in the end it wouldn’t matter. She would always have her eyes fixated on him – never Rei. notes Don't ask what came over me. Sorry this is all over the place, and such a load of fail. T_T[/style] |
