After all, he was a coward and he would run, he would run to where he can find a place that was predictable. He soon realize this when he was with her. The first human he had ever feared.
Kisaragi Haruka was her name. She was nothing special. At least nothing that stood out. Sure she was the class representative but only because she was the only one that cared about middle school. Everyone else only went because they were forced to, or were too focus on their studies to actually focus on each other. In Renji's case it was a mixture of both he suppose. He was forced to by the government but he did plan to continue onto high school to get a good job. So why was she a threat? Well to be honest when they first talked he had only seen her as nothing more than a classmate. Another one of those creatures he cannot comprehend and to this very day he cannot understand her.
She had been someone trying to talk to him quite a lot and he didn't get why. It started back when middle school came. They were placed in the same classes but due to their last names they were placed far from each other. She was quiet girl who only won class representative because no one else wanted it. In other words she had the misfortune of being a sacrifice can yet she took the position seriously trying to do her best. At times he wondered if she knew that no one took her seriously, especially with how soft spoken she was.
For their final project in English, they were suppose to pair up and interview their classmates to see how much they have changed over the year and how the person felt about school. As usual and as to be expected, friends paired up with each other. Although due to the fact that Renji was not truly acquainted with anyone, he didn't bother to run to a friend and be all excited about this. Really he didn't need to it to graduate. Sure it would drop him down but he would still pass and really that was good enough for him. So he was ready to just do nothing when he heard a voice.
"T-T-Tatsuya-san."
Hmmm? He turned his head towards the source of the voice to see the long raven haired girl who always look down so no one can see her eyes. She tried her best to give him a smile but it faltered. Not in a way that it was fake but rather she had looked nervous. He didn't give her a smile back nor did he asked her way she was so nervous. "What is it Kisaragi-san?" he had merely asked back his tone flat, not anything like those who knew him now would have expected. His eyes dead as if it was a mix of either boredom or him being sleepy.
"Ummm....would you mind pairing up with me?" she asked not looking into his eyes but he was used to people avoiding his eyes due to the fact that they were unnatural.
Hmmm? He arch a brow. He saw no reason to, it wouldn't benefit him, he would pass either way. "Why thank you for offering but I must politely decline" he told her with a small bow and then walking away.
It was the first time they had talked and it was a short one.
The second time, Renji was trying to steal some bread because he was hungry. It was too easy since the cashier was lazy and didn't keep a close eye on him. As he grabbed the bread the door opened with a chime and there she was entering. She had seemed startled to see him and then quickly looked away from him before heading over to the cash register. He started to head towards the door with the bread in his pocket. They passed each other but didn't say a word possibly because of his decline yesterday or maybe it was a different reason. He didn't know and to be frank he didn't care. He wasn't interested in her, he wasn't interested in humans period.
That was until she heard her soft voice. "Umm...here you go." He turned around to see that she was handing money to the cash register who had looked rather shock. She gave the guy a nervous smile before walking around to look for something to buy. Renji had kept quiet and walked out in case the guy had thought of anything. What a weird girl. Yet he didn't completely walked away and waited outside for her. When she had came out which was not too long she had looked surprised.
"Kisaragi-san." he bowed to her though he didn't bother to give her a smile.
"Tatsuya-san." she bowed back.
"May I inquire to why you gave the register money? Or do you normally pay before you buy bread?" he asked, although the later sounded rather cynical.
The girl blinked at him not looking offended. In fact she looked down looking rather bashful. "Ano...I....I didn't want the bread unpaid."
He understood her words even though she didn't say them outright. She didn't want the bread to have been stolen.
"I think bread tastes good when paid and worked for."
Really? What a strange girl. Renji was sure they both tasted the same but it obviously was not the case with Haruka. He gave her a nod. "I see. And Kisaragi-san, is the offer still up?"
The girl glanced up at him and tilted her head looking confused. "Hai?"
"The English project."
"Eh? You woul-...you'd partner up with me?"
"Yes. If it's not too late."
Now she shook her head violently. "N-N-No, not at all. Thank you very much." she bowed to him.
He shook his head. "No need to thank me." he told her as Renji was not doing it for her. No, he had done it for himself because he was curious of the human in front of him. Kisaragi Haruka was the first human he had ever been curious of.[/style][STYLE=margin-top: -15px; letter-spacing: 2px; color: #98B2BC; text-transform: uppercase; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]made by kiwii at btn![/style]

Since he had no place in mind to go, he had told the girl to lead and she had. Despite the fact that they agreed to become partners, neither asked about each other. Then again they didn't know each other well enough and if they had, they wouldn't had to need to ask. Breaking the ice was such a hard thing to do. Yet the male had been able to been the one to break the silence. "Is this the way to your house?"
"Hai." she nodded taking a bite of the bread she had bought. "Is it bad?
He shook his head. "Not at all." he had told her.
"Ummm...Tatsuya-san...you like to read right?" she had asked him peering at him rather curious.
"I suppose you can say that."
"What books do you like to read?"
"Anything realistic." was all that he had told her. Soon they stopped in front of a house that had looked rather big.
"Umm...if you don't mind...this is where I'll leave you."
"Oh? I'm not allowed to go in?" he had asked arching a brow.
"Well...no...but I promise tomorrow I'll tell you more about me. And....maybe I can get to know you as well?"
The next day when he came into class, as to be expected she was the already inside. When Haruka spotted him, she had ran over to the male before pulling out a pink carnation. "Here." she told him.
"Hmmm?" he tilted his head. "What is this for?" he asked taking the flower as he was not one to ever deny a gift.
"It's...um....'Thank you' for being my partner." she stated before looking down once again.
Was his eye really that bad? "Ahh. You like flowers?" he had asked her even though the answer to that question was rather obvious but then again, most formalities are rather obvious if one was to ask him. He at times wonder why they were even there. Merely a waste of time but then again perhaps it was to wear a mask and pretend they care for each other?
"Hai...they're pretty." she stated "...And they help me say things I'm not good at saying."
Ahh that is true. Flowers do have hidden meanings don't they? Hidden meanings created by humans. "I see." he had merely replied back with a small nod of understanding but that was all he offered her on the subject. As he was not very familiar in the language of flowers, he could not truly continue it. Although he suppose he has something to write down. When the teacher came the two were quick to go to their seat like the rest of the students. He can hear some of the students whispering things but he didn't bother to try to listen in. It was most likely idiotic gossips.
During break he went to greet her and begin their new session but after suggesting they go somewhere quiet. In the end the two went to the garden club of their school. A club she had belonged to, which he was not too amazed by. After all she did say she like flowers did she not? She was starting to water the flowers having such a kind smile upon her face. She didn't look as withdrawn at all. "Ne Tatsuya-san. Can you help me? I have a lot to water and umm...if we're going to have a good, I would like to water the flowers first so they're happy."
She did know flowers were inanimate objects right? Renji had to hold back the urge to roll his eyes as he gave a nod. "Very well." he had merely stated before taking a water can and started to water it. He knew how to water plants namely because his step mother had forced him. Although he only did the bare minimum as it is in his nature not to waste anything.
"Eh? Tatsuya-san. Don't you think that's too little?"
He stared at her. "Is it now?" he had merely asked not sounding insulted as he really didn't care.
Haruka looked down a bit nervously before nodding her head. "H-Hai. They need just a little more water."
"Very well." And so he gave them more water. He had no idea why she looked so nervous. It was as if she was better with flowers than with people. Then again he suppose he was not one to talk as the male was much better with books than he was with people. Books don't annoy him as much.
Once they were done, the two sat down and she took out two box of bentos. "For you." she stated.
He stared at her before nodding. "Thank you." he muttered before starting to eat. "Did you make this Kisaragi-san?"
"Yes. Umm...if there's anything you don't like."
"Oh no. You're cooking is not horrible." he merely told her but then again Renji was not a picky person. "So I assume you are part of this club?"
"Hai."
"Where are all the other members?"
"I'm the only one."
Eh? Then he doubt it can be considered a club. Didn't a club need at least three people? Then again, he suppose people might not care. There was a green house and flowers so why not? He really didn't know why.
"Are you in any club Tatsuya-san?"
"I don't like clubs." he merely replied back. Really though, it was more like he didn't like people in general.
"Don't you get lonely?" she asked now tilting her head.
"Lonely? the male echoed her with a small smirk as if he was belittling her. "Kisaragi-san, you must misunderstand that word. One only knows loneliness if they know company. As I have never known the warmth of company I do not know the coldness that people seems to think accompany with being alone." he had explained to her.
She looked down at her lunch more focused on it then she was of him. He still did not understand why. If she was going to write about him shouldn't she try to read his expressions? Oh well, it wasn't his paper so like it mattered. "That's...worse than loneliness." she had stated.
The words caught Renji by surprise and he stared at her. "Really now? How so?"
"Um...I mean...eto..."
"If you have already said something you should either finish it or make up a lie Kisaragi-san."
"But if I lie then you wouldn't write about me..."
"On the contrary, the lies themselves would say something about you. Everything you do or do not do tell something about you. Now do continue on."
"I...I just think it's lonely to never have friends. That's all."
Now the male chuckled at her words. "Kisaragi-san, aren't you being hypocritical? After all, you have no friends either do you? If you do, you wouldn't have came up to me but one of your friends." He was not someone people would want to be with after all.
"I-I guess."
My my, she was not one to stand for what she believed in, now was she?
"Will you be my friend?"
The question caught the Tatsuya off guard. Him? Friends with her? Ha, what a laugh. As if he would be friends with these disgusting, illogical humans. "As great as an offer that is. I must respectfully decline." was all he stated.
"Ohhh." the girl sounded disappointed but he felt no guilt for it. He never felt guilt for anything.
"If you wish to have friends why not talk to our class, miss class representative?" he had asked her and her body jolted. Hmmm?
"I...they...they look busy...with the project and graduation coming up."
"I suppose so." he had merely replied not telling her that she could had talked to them before or that some of them didn't even care to do interviews like they do.[/style][STYLE=margin-top: -15px; letter-spacing: 2px; color: #98B2BC; text-transform: uppercase; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]made by kiwii at btn![/style]

Renji knew that she was reserved, timid and liked flowers. He also learn from her words that she seems to want to make friends but yet with her personality he suppose it was hard. By now everyone was already in some sort of clique, some closed circles, their own little world pretty much. It was hard, she would have a better chance in high school really. Not that much greater, but a great chance nonetheless. During one of their sessions she asked him.
"Tatsuya-san, what school do you plan to go to?"
"Ouran. Although I would have to take the entrance exam. What about Kisaragi-san?"
"Umm...I suppose Ouran as well...I hear they have a friendship club and a club where people will talk to you regardless of who you are."
"Ahh. Well only one student will make the scholarship though. Do study hard." he told her. Really, his reason was not noble like hers. It was not to make friends or to enjoy school even if chances are he doubt they would accept her as she was a commoner compared to their nobility. Really, he laughed at such thoughts since it was not like they had earned it. So why did he wish to go to Ouran? Simple, he wanted to get out of his house. That was it. It was just a way to escape. He didn't plan to make any connections nor to change himself. He didn't care about the rich life as many would think.
One day though while Renji was walking around school, he decided to go to the green house just to see if Hanako was there. When he had gotten there, he saw a group of girls cutting the flowers ending their life. He saw the girl he was looking for being held back screaming as the other girls laugh. Bullying, nothing new really. He didn't bother to save her but had merely watched until a good amount of the flowers were cut. They didn't cut all but they did cut quite a lot. So many dead flowers fallen onto the soil. As they started to walk out, he hid himself behind a tree. It was then he caught a small bit of their conversation.
"Like anyone care. Those things would die sooner or later anyway taken care by her."
He waited until they were far gone. Only then did he walk into the green house to see her holding one of the many dead flowers looking rather sad. "Ahh, I didn't know you were bullied Kisaragi-san." he had commented.
"I...I'm...." she was crying. Really what a strange girl. They were just flowers.
"Kisaragi-san. I understand you like flowers but no need to cry. Those things would had died anyway." Nothing live forever. They merely have premature deaths. That was all. Nothing to cry over.
Yet Haruka stared at him, tears still coming out. With a small sigh he bent down and wiped some of her tears. She had looked shocked before going back down to look at the flowers. "They were going to die...it was just a matter of time." she muttered to herself before looking at him and giving him a smile. "Y-Yeah. I'll...I'll just replace them." she nodded to herself before slowly standing up dropping the head of the flower. "Tatsuya-san...what did you come here for?"
"I was thinking of walking you home? My house is on the way you can say. But perhaps we should go to a flower shop instead?" he had suggested.
"Hai."
And so the two headed off to the flower shop together. He watched with interest as the girl stared at the various flowers intently trying to find the right one. Really, to him they all look similar to one another. Although to her who love flowers, they were all different most likely. In the end she only picked out three and he helped her carry them back to the green house and plant them. She smiled softly down before standing up. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"Helping me."
He chuckled. "You silly girl." he chided her. "Consider it..." What? Why did he go out of the way? Sure he didn't waste that much time but it was time nonetheless. "Something in my favor. I got to spend more time with you and learn more about you for the paper."
"Ah! So did I. Thank you for that Tatsuya-san."
What a strange girl.
In the second week, he had went to her house one time for their sessions. They had thought about going to Renji's or at least Haruka had suggested it but he turned her down stating that his house was too crowded and that his parents didn't let people over. A lie but really, he didn't care. He lied often after all and she had bought it. That was all that mattered. When she opened the door though there was no one at all. Then again she had lived in a small apartment.
"Hmmm? Do you live by yourself?" A middle school living by herself. Was such things allowed?
"Umm...my uncle isn't home."
"Uncle? You don't live with your parents?"
"No."
He didn't question her anymore. They had merely had small talks with one another before Renji left the house.
Another week went by and they were already passed the halfway point. It was then that while walking around school the male's ears caught whispers. He had not intended to but they were rather loud.
"Wow. I wonder how Tatsuya is still alive. How many more weeks do you give him?"
"Who knows. He's a demon. That might be why her eyes don't affect him."
"Oh yeah. Well they fit each other don't they?"
"Yeah. Demon Child Tatsuya and Death Messenger Kisaragi fit each other so well."
Death Messenger? Hmmm? Now what was this? He knew he could not ask them as it would alarm the gossipers and it was not like when he was a kid where he can threaten them with his demonic powers [which were namely scary version of magic tricks] to give him information. They were not that gullible anymore. A shame really. Still, it's been two weeks and they were talking about how long he would live. Death Messenger...how long they would live. Did Kisaragi have a rumor? Did she know about it?
During lunch Renji had grabbed the girl and led her towards the green house before asking. "So. How was your day today Death Messenger Kisaragi Hanako?" he asked watching to see any signs. She had flinched...oh so she did know about it?
He had smirked at her reaction. "Do not worry. I don't know much but I am curious as to this story. I believe I deserve to know if I am going to die soon."
Hanako looked down away from him. "No I won't." she had told him.
He tilted his head. "Oh?"
"It only works if I look at you in the eyes."
"And what makes you say that?"
"That's what people say." she had merely replied back. "It started with my parents. They died in a car accident while I survived. Then as I move from guardian to guardian, they kept dying. But then on my third one, he was busy and so he was never home. He was alive. He then got married and well, just in case, he had me live in an apartment since middle school. I don't mind it though. At least no one will die. As long as I don't look at them."
Ahh, that would explain why then. That was why she always avoided looking at him in the eyes. She thought she would kill him. Humans were so idiotically superstitious. The male bend down in front of her and cupped her cheeks before lifting for her to look at him. It was the first time he had seen her eyes and they were such a fine shade of purple that was like amethyst. "Kisaragi-san. Death is a natural thing. People live and die. If they don't die because of some accident, murder or suicide, they die because of old age. And you don't truly believe it is your fault now do you?"
"Huh?"
"If you had believed it was your fault why are you still alive? Why did you not kill yourself and save people? Why did you seek me out in class? You must have heard the rumors about me haven't you? That I'm a demon child. Was it because you do not wish to be lonely?" He had remembered how she mentioned loneliness as if it was so horrible. Something he could not see. "But if you don't look at me then how would you know if I enjoy your time? You comment about me being lonely but you never even truly saw me have you?" he chuckled before letting go and she had continued to stare at him. "If you say thank you or sorry to someone you should look at them in the eyes. And really, no point in clinging to mere superstition you don't even believe in yourself."
Haruka stared at him before giving a soft smile. The same smile she had given to the flowers but this time it was to him. "Arigato Tatsuya-san and gomene Tatsuya-san."
"What for?"
"To make up the time I didn't say it to your face."
"You silly girl." he had merely replied back petting her and his lips twitched. "But really. To think our representative is so weak hearted. And you want to go to Ouran where they'll treat you worse." he sighed.
"Am I not worthy?" she asked looking rather scared now. It was strange to finally she expressions on her. At least expressions with her eyes anyway.
"Right now. No." he had merely told her before standing up. "Come on. I'll walk you back home and I guess we should start working on our papers as well."
Haruka stared at him before smiling again. "Hai." she stated before the two watered the flowers. As they watered the flowers, he saw her glance at him quite often.
"Is it the eyes?" he asked and she had jumped a bit.
"H-hai."
Of course. It was always the eyes.
"They're pretty."
Renji had almost jumped, but he had better control of himself.
"Really now?"
"Hai."[/style][STYLE=margin-top: -15px; letter-spacing: 2px; color: #98B2BC; text-transform: uppercase; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]made by kiwii at btn![/style]

Renji!" Taiyo banged on the door. "Get up! It's time to go to school!"
It was the day the paper was due but Renji didn't get out of bed. "I don't feel too well. I think I'm-" he coughed into his hand hard. "Can you call the school?"
His stepmother who was on the other side heard him. "Poor Renji. Taiyo, go to school I'll call them and take care of Renji." He heard the retreating footsteps before getting up.
Well they were rather easy to trick. He felt a small smirk tug upon his lips before looking at the paper that he had done.
Kisaragi Haruka, she is a quiet girl. Very timid and seems to be scared of voicing her thoughts. A girl who I do not understand. We have always been in the same class but I never truly talked to her until about a month ago. She is a creature I cannot understand. I cannot truly describe her as anything because I do not comprehend this girl. She is such a strange human. Paying for bread I stole. Crying over torn up flowers. Waiting for someone to tell her something she already know. In the end I am not certain of what she is but I must say, I am certain about one thing:
The rumors are true. If I was to stay with her any longer, if I was to look into her eyes, I would certainly meet premature death.
That's right. He had not went to school and accepted barely passing because he did not wish to die. That girl...she...she was the first to make him smile. She was dangerous. He had to avoid her. He knew it for sure and so that was what he had decided to do. His cellphone rang and he let it ring and ring and ring again not even bothering to see who it was. There was only one person that would call him.
"Tatsuya-san?" came the familiar voice. "Tatsuya-san? I heard you were sick but...you were so healthy yesterday. Are you okay? The teacher say that you can turn in your paper...Tatsuya-san...you're there aren't you?"
He continued to stare at the phone as there was a moment of silence.
"I...umm...is it because you don't want to hear what I wrote because I'm weak? Is that why? Is it because I'm so weak you don't want to see me? Then...umm....well...this is a one-sided promise kind of...I think...but...umm...err...I promise I'll b stronger! Once that happens, will you...see me again? Because...I want to tell you something. That's all. Thank you for listening."
And with that she hung up. Renji laughed at her words feeling no threat. If she was not going to see him until she became strong then he was safe. Because he was sure that she would not become strong. Once weak is always weak. She had listened to other people and then waited for someone to dispel their words instead of doing it herself. She would never become strong, he would never see her and so he would be safe.[/style][STYLE=margin-top: -15px; letter-spacing: 2px; color: #98B2BC; text-transform: uppercase; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]made by kiwii at btn![/style]
