oh man. oh god. oh man. I just really want to roll into the sun because this is hella embarassing and sappy and I never write romantic stories but this took on a life of it's own.
It started with a conversation me and Zeph had about Ai and Naoki and how she'd blackmail him into learning how to ballroom dance. Originally it was supposed to be a cracky and stupid one-shot and then it turned into this. Which is pretty much...a slightly self-parodying and dumb character study and the only reason i'm posting it is because I told Zeph I would. /gross crais
It's about three chapters long, the last of which I am in the process of writting. - and it's set in an AU about four years in the future from present FYE with Naoki graduated and going to a -actual real life- university in England. The pairing is pretty obviously AixNaoki in that order, because we all know who wears the pants in this relationship. In has some minor mentions of characters who I've plotted with and how they've affected the growth of their personalities and relationship. If you'd character to be added (why?) /removed feel free to lemme know.
Actually, just don't read this, haha. ;; [/blockquote]

[STYLE=margin: 70px 30px 30px 30px; text-align: justify; color: #c4c4c4;font-size: 10px;]Naoki starred at his own reflection in the bathroom mirror and could not help but notice just on how much he had changed.
When he had graduated from Ouran and moved on to bigger and better (well, that was always subject to personal opinion) things. In his last year of high school he had chased his old childhood dream of studying forensic science in England, and after a rather serious trial of perfecting his English and not the not-so-serious trial of keeping his grades up (you don’t get called a prodigy for nothing) his acceptance into the University of Kent was finalized and off he went. Leaving the place he had called home for a good two years had be surprisingly difficult. While the people he called friends were still few and far in between, Naoki did actually have them. -and all of a sudden, it was like being a kid and learning to fall again; you held back the tears and the words you wanted to say because, sometimes, things in life hurt and there just isn’t anything you can do about it.
Granted, Naoki still talked to people from that period in his life. In fact, just yesterday he had called up Elissa for advice while she talked him out of what she had referred to as a “fashion disaster“ ( ”You were going to wear plaid with stripes, Nao-chan?!” ”They were both green…so…” |
) …but it wasn’t really the same. He was not the same. Now, coming close to the two year anniversary since he had left, it was like the person who he had been at that time was a vauge and distance memory of a somebody he had not seen in decades. No longer was he the child so sickly thin and short he made grandmothers’ everywhere collectively weep. As his mother put it, he had “grown into himself”, a respectable five-foot-eight in height, still thin but more solid and plagued with less health issues, he wasn’t “cute” and patted on the head anymore he was “handsome” and patted on the shoulder… But, that was all calculated and natural, the physical change was something that Naoki had predicted - and sometimes wished for - would come with a little bit of time and proper foods. What he hadn’t expected was the difference in attitudes. When his Father introduced him to clients they shook his hand and addressed him as a person in his own right, gone were the condescending glances of his sister’s friend when he tried to engage in intelligent conversation with them and, the arguably strangest change of all, how his strong, unshakeable, cuts-open-dead-bodies-for-a-living mother reached to pull him into a hug and openly cried into his shoulder while mumbling about how proud she was of him as he awkwardly stood in the doorway during Christmas break. It was weird. It was weird being an adult and Naoki wasn’t quite sure how to deal with it. BANG. BANG. BANG. ”You bettah not be wanking in tha!” The sudden noise made Naoki jump, but upon realising who it was, he immediately settled down and turn to open the door. His roommate, James, was a tall, broad-shouldered and angry-looking Liverpool native who talked like a Chav and completed complex equations like her was some kind of distant relative Einstein. He was forward, brash and Naoki was pretty much sure he was clinically insane on some level. He was the kind of guy that years ago would have driven him up a wall, but now simply amused him. “You goin’ somewhere?” James asked, looking him over and shoving a toothbrush in his mouth. ”Yeah.” Naoki replied, self-consciously tugging at his tie and momentarily allowing a wave of old self-consciousness to wash over him. It wasn’t often he wore suits, but the text message had said to- ” Is it 'a date?””No, I’m meeting with an old friend.””I ‘unno ‘bout you, but I nevah dress up in my nicest britches for any ol’ friend.” James grinned. Naoki rolled his eyes. James laughed. -and Naoki started heading towards the door. “Remembah to use protection, mate! You’d be a terrible fath-”A rude gesture and a door slam was what Naoki offered in reply. He could hear James's laughter echoing in his skull long after. He wasn't a bad guy and any other day he'd humour him, but not today. There were too many conflicting emotions centered around one text message today. [STYLE=margin: 70px 30px 30px 30px; text-align: justify; color: #c4c4c4;font-size: 10px;]The train ride to there address that he had been sent was a pleasant one. It was late, but not so late that the booze hounds were out and the trains were filled with working men and woman and kids who had an exceptionally long commute home. He amused himself by re-reading the lengthy and very Ringo-esque e-mail the older boy had sent him in warning of his sister’s arrival in London and the following text message he had sent and letting the doe-eyed little girl beside him coo over his Totoro phone charm; part of a series of passive-aggressive weird gifts he and Vivien had exchanged, the last gift he had sent him was Hello Kitty bath salts.
Finally, he got off at a station he had only been to a few times and walked up the street to what looked to be a very old and very high-class hotel.
-and then he saw her.
It wasn’t anything spectacular like it always was in the movies, or sweepingly romantic like it was in books. In fact, it was a little bit…silly…two young people who looked completely out of place standing in the London rain just starring at each other. One with a grin and the other with a look that anybody who didn’t know him would mistake for mild confusion.
A million different ways to start a conversation passed through Naoki’s mind.
“You let your hair grow out!”
“Wow, it’s really been a long time.”
“Looks like I’m taller then you now.”
“I love you.” --wait, what?
While Naoki was caught up in his own mind, he had failed to notice Ai had crossed the distance between them and grabbed his hand and then proceeded to forcefully drag him towards the building. When he finally became aware of what was going on, he felt his face flush and was silently thank full she hadn’t been around to learn that he had long since grown out of his embarrassment about being touched.
After regaining his composure enough that he wasn’t worried about whether his voice was going to crack or not, Naoki plainly asked her: ”What exactly are we doing?” |
”Sneaking into a private party.”Naoki balked, ”You’re kidding me? You’re aware that is illegal and generally frowned upon in most countries? -and I‘d like to continue to have a chance at a career in law enforme-”. He was silence by a mouth clamping firmly over his hand and the owner of that hand dragging him into the shadows. ”If you keep quiet and we don’t get caught-” Ai whispered, her hand still covering his mouth, ”-then we having nothing to worry about, right?~”Naoki really should have just stopped right then and there. Told her this was stupid, that is was rude to invite him to meet up at a party she wasn’t invited too, that Ringo was right, that he shouldn’t have trusted a text message with that many hearts. But, Naoki did not do any of these things. Instead, he let Ai shove him into the bottom of a gold-plated coat rack before crawling in herself and stayed deathly silent as the unsuspecting hotel worker found it slightly more difficult then usual to push the coats along. Naoki hated himself. -and as if the situation couldn’t get any worse, Ai suddenly leaned in towards his face, opened her mouth and whispered: ”Hey, Naoki…you’ve got a nosebleed.”You’ve got to be fucking kidding me….” [/style]

template by pianissimo of btn and ote
