[atrb=border,0,true][classy=bg][classy=text]The three girls were arranged neatly across the bedroom; Emi, lying on her stomach on the floor, a bottle of nail polish next to her and a tiny brush in her hand. Toshiko, sitting in front of her, one foot delicately extended towards the ginger, in the process of being painted, and the other waiting its turn. Lilith, lying on the bed, fingers intertwined behind her head and staring at the ceiling, her regular scowl firmly in place. It was a peaceful scene; of course, that was all an illusion. One could never have exact peace around these three. Lil was somewhat sulky at the moment; she had been ordered in to silence, so that she would not interrupt Emi’s concentration. Painting toe nails was apparently serious business, a fact that, upon being informed of, the brunette had explosively titled as ‘bullshit’. Emi, for her part, had her tongue stuck out in concentration, and was attacking Toshiko’s foot with fervor. “Your toenails are so perfect, Toshi!” she exclaimed, dabbing on a bit more green paint on to the girl’s big toe. “They’re just so perfectly sized and smooth and perfect!” Toshiko beamed at the compliment, pleased as always to get praise from her best friend. “Oh, thank you, Emi-chan! That’s-” From her spot on the bed, Lilith finished the sentence for her. “-the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life.” Toshiko had been trying her best to ignore Lilith up until then, and had almost succeeded in forgetting about her presence until the university student had uttered that particular gem. The Yuzuru’s eyes flashed, and her pigtails whipped around as she turned her head to glare at her cousin. “It was a perfectly nice compliment! You’re just jealous that Emi isn’t painting your toenails, nyeh!” the girl stuck her tongue out in Lilith’s direction. Emi, to her credit, just kept painting, her eyes narrowed in extreme focus. She didn’t have time to engage in idle talk like that. This was important work she did! Toshiko was a juvenile little freak, alright, but then again, Lil had already known that. The Kurosu rolled her eyes skywards and scoffed. “Me? Jealous? More like bored stiff. It took Emi half-a-freaking-hour to find a shade ‘perfect’ enough for your toes, and why exactly did she pick that particular shade of green in the end? ’Because it matches Toshi-chan’s eyes’.” her voice went up by an octave at the end as she attempted to mimic Emi’s voice. It wasn’t a very accurate representation, seeing as how Emi normally didn’t sound like she was on helium, but Lil had never been the most talented mimic. Toshi stared down at her toes affectionately. Emi had just finished her big one and had moved on to the toe right beside it. “Yes, it is quite a nice shade, isn’t it?” Lil rolled over on to her stomach and pulled herself to the edge of the bed to check out the color herself. “Well, yeah, it actually is- hey, don’t change the subject!” Toshiko smirked at her. “You’re just upset because if we were going to match your eye color to a nail polish, the color would be mud brown.” the girl nodded, pleased with her insult. “Muddy-mud brown!” Lilith’s scowl deepened, and she shook her fist in the green-eyed girl’s direction. “I’ll make your face mud brown, you-” “Alright!” Emi interrupted, sitting up abruptly and scowling. “I can’t concentrate with this much noise! Everyone, you all just be quiet! Lil, if you’re so bored, then you come over here and help me paint!” The last thing Lil wanted to be doing at the moment was slaving over Toshiko’s little toenails. She uttered the first excuse that popped in to her mind. “….There’s only one bottle of nail polish.” “Oh, don’t worry!” the ginger waved her hand dismissively in the air, before reaching behind her back and grabbing on to….another bottle of nail polish, of an identical color to the one currently in use. “I brought….two! So get down here and paint!” It was hard to deny Emi anything when she was this determined, so, instead of arguing, Lilith merely muttered a subdued ‘okay’, before sliding off the bed. Likewise, Toshiko refrained from speaking, though she sported a look of horror on her visage. Grabbing the bottle of nail polish, Lilith watched as Emi demonstrated the pattern she was going for here and nodded her understanding once the mini-lesson was done (apparently, one could not just grab the brush and paint; who knew?). Toshiko focused herself on looking everywhere else except at Lilith as the brunette dabbed at her big toe industrially with the brush. The silence that occurred as two of the girls painted was blissful; once again, a semblance of peace had been created. But, as history had demonstrated, peace around these three could never last long. A couple of minutes later, Emi sat back up, a delighted expression of satisfaction painted (pun slightly intended) all over her face.“There! Done! Toshiko, your foot is a work of art!” the ginger paused, and added thoughtfully, “Actually, we should probably hang it up in a museum or something….b-but that’d involve chopping off Toshi-chan’s foot, and she probably still needs it for things, so maybe later, neh?” chuckling awkwardly, she turned her head around to address Lilith. “Hey, Lil-chan, how’re you coming along?” Lilith apparently hadn’t moved off Toshiko’s big toe. Emi’s exquisite eyebrows rose in surprise. She had known not to expect much from Lilith, but still. She’d have thought that she’d be on the middle toe by now, at least. The ginger shuffled forwards a bit on her knees so that she could get a better look at the handiwork, just to see if Lil had recreated the pattern Emi had shown her. Maybe that was what was taking her so long; she was just working very hard on making the toe perfect! The hostess leaned closer to get a good look at the toe, expecting to see wonders. What she actually saw fell a little short of her expectations. “….Lil-chan?” Lilith looked up from her work. “Yeah?” “Did you paint…a sea monster on Toshiko’s big toe?” “….maybe.” Toshiko, who up until this point had been relaxing, jerked forwards in panic. “She did what?” hurriedly, the girl looked down at her foot, which now sported an emerald green Loch Ness Monster on the big toe, complete with a wiggly set of spines and crooked, if pointy-looking, teeth. “I was going to put a little person in near the bottom, too,” Lil said when the silence began to stretch. Toshi and Emi were too busy ogling at the foot to say anything. “Y’know, and make it look like the monster was eating it. And if there was space, I was going to put a speech bubble above the monster’s head and make it saw R-A-W-R.” she looked at Emi. “It seemed creative…what, was I not supposed to- OW!” at this moment, Toshiko had finally broken out of her stupid, seizing the object nearest to her (a textbook), and flinging it at Lil’s head. “You put the LOCH NESS MONSTER on my FOOT?!” the girl wailed, scrambling to her feet and picking up the text she had just thrown, to try and hit her cousin on the head with it again. “WHAT THE HELL CRACKERS?!” “Ow- ow- stop it, you madwoman!” Lil yelled, attempting to fend off blows with her forearms, before jumping to her own feet and pelting towards the door, Toshiko in pursuit. “I THOUGHT IT WOULD LOOK CUTE- OW, STOP HITTING ME, YOU STUPID- OW!” Emi just sat there, staring after the two out through the open door as they ran down the hallway. Should she follow them? It was her house, after all. They might break something. …Naw, that was stupid. Settling herself back down and humming an upbeat (if incredibly off-key) tune to drown out Lilith and Toshiko’s shrieks, Emi picked up one of the brushes and began painting her own toes. Nail painting; check. I-I dunno, I had a lot of free time during the past ten days- MANY THINGS WERE MADE THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN.
