Stupid, stupid Hinata. Aways making his life a living hell. Always ruining everything good he ever had when he was sure he had it. Always saying senseless shit, all for the sake of making him feel like shit. Or was it stupid Naoto? Stupid, stupid Naoto, who kept allowing her words to get to him? Stupid Naoto who kept giving in to the pursuit of a girl who was constantly pushing him away? Stupid Naoto who had always liked a challenge. And she liked them, too, and was always setting up some sort of competition for herself and him, be it in sports or board games or otherwise pointless activities. Naturally, they both wanted to win, given the circumstances of each and every challenge that would swear to punish them if ever they fell short of victory. Not only was it that, but also their competitive nature that made them think so highly of and feel so strongly towards the idea of winning. All along, Naoto figured he liked winning all because of those things alone, and because his sadistic side was encouraged by the thought of victory over the Kaito girl, which would lead her to being put in humiliating situations if he was to defeat her... That was all up until recently. It wasn't like Naoto didn't still enjoy that feeling of satisfaction when realizing he'd won in any competition, but it was something about it that was so much more important to him when it came to his bets with Hinata. He knew that if he lost, he'd be given some sort of embarrasing consequence for it each time - one that Hinata would hold over his head and laugh at him for for all the rest of his life, most likely. He knew that if he'd won, he hadn't a chance at being taunted by her like that anymore. He also knew that if he kept at it, Hinata wouldn't have a reason to laugh at him, or to not take him seriously. Maybe he was in over his head, but he also didn't like the fact that these stupid bets made him look bad every time he ended up losing, but it wasn't like he could simply turn her down any time she offered a competition of some sort. He'd lose even more of her respect for ever doing that. He wanted to impress her, after all, and so that clearly was not an option either. What was there left to do but try his best to win? Sooner or later, if he proved to her that he was just that great, then maybe she'd come to consider the idea of liking him back more and more, over time. As it turned out, though, the greatest challenge of all was convincing her to love him... But hadn't he always liked a challenge? Yes, but only when he won - and that was why he was really starting to hate this weird, twisted game he'd gotten himself into. [/style] |
